THOSE WHO REMAIN FOREVER- DR. ROD MILLS

“And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2:17)

Abide forever means live forever, but it means more. It means those who do the will of God will stand forever, will remain forever, will live in God forever, will endure forever, will be strong forever. Those who do the will of God are sustained by His absolute eternal staying power to remain alive and active on the scenes of eternity and all that’s on the horizon of forever.

Contrast John’s description of those who are doing the will of God to the Apostle Paul’s description of those who are seeking power and influence in this age.  Paul tells us that the rulers of this age are coming to nothing. The NRSV translates it a little differently: The rulers of this age are doomed to perish.

1 Corinthians 2:6 (NKJV): “However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of  the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.”

1 Corinthians 2:6 (NRSV): “Yet among the mature we do speak wisdom, though it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to perish.”

It does not matter how much influence, power, or authority we rise to in this life. What matters is that we are people who constantly abide in Jesus Christ and do the will of the Father.
